Set Up the Shopper Assistant

Add Bolt’s Shopper Assistant to your storefront to offer shoppers a personalized experience. Quickly set up the Shopper Assistant from the Merchant Dashboard.

Before You Start

Shopper Assistant is available for merchants using BigCommerce Managed Checkout or Adobe Commerce.

Main Settings

  1. Log into the Merchant Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Shopper Assistant.

Enable the Shopper Assistant

  1. From Shopper Assistant Settings, use the division selector to choose a division.
  2. Toggle Enable Shopper Assistant to On .
  3. Click Save.

Add the Shopper Assistant to Your Storefront

The Shopper Assistant is enabled through a simple code snippet. Add it to a common storefront component like a footer so that it appears across all pages of your storefront.

If you need help figuring out where to place the code snippet, reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM).


  1. Copy the snippet in Code snippet.
  2. Paste the snippet into a common storefront page. For example, you may choose to place it in templates/components/common/footer.html.

Optional Settings

Configure Visual Settings

Visual settings enable you to customize the look and feel of your Shopper Assistant.

  1. Position: Select the location for the Shopper Assistant widget to display.
  2. Z-Index: Enter a value to change the stack order of this element. Bolt recommends setting the Z-Index to a large value such as 99999 so that the Shopper Assistant is never covered by another element.
  3. Primary CTA Color: To customize the color of primary buttons and actions, enter a hex value.
  4. Click Save.

Enable Shopper Incentives

Optionally, offer shoppers a discount to incentivize them to use the Shopper Assistant. This benefits your business because the Shopper Assistant turns guest shoppers into logged-in shoppers and provides greater insights on shopper preferences and behavior.

  1. Toggle Turn on discounts to On .
  2. Type of Discount: Select the discount that you’d like to offer to shoppers:
    • Percent off total purchase: Select a percentage.
    • Free shipping
  3. Click Save.

Set Up Product Recommendations

To set which products the Shopper Assistant recommends, refer to Enable Product Add-ons & Upsells.

Disable the Shopper Assistant

In the event that you need to remove the Shopper Assistant from your storefront, you can do so without modifying your storefront code.

  1. Log into the Merchant Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Shopper Assistant.
  3. From Shopper Assistant Settings, use the division selector to choose a division.
  4. Toggle Enable Shopper Assistant to Off .
  5. Click Save.
